Aksana Novikava Fined 2 800 000 Rubles (about $1 500) for “Quick Recovery” Poster

09.09.2003.

On 30 August, Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s birthday, Aksana Novikava (let’s quote the court ruling) “stood near the building in Enhels Street, 20 in Minsk with the poster “Quick Recovery”. By This she violated the order of picketing…”

On 2 September Aksana Novikava was tried at Minsk Leninski Borough Court. Judge A. Shylko fined her 2 800 000 rubles for the alleged violation . At the trial A. Novikava didn’t take the blame and stated she hadn’t done anything illegal. The court rejected this argument and considered her actions as violation of the abovementioned article.

We should remind that Aksana Novikava is a single mother and brings up small daughter (2 years old). In April 2002 she was punished with 2 years of conditional imprisonment with two-years’ probation term for defamation of President.
