BAJ Organizes Day of Closed Newspapers

On 19 September the PA “Belarusian Association of Journalists” is going to hold and action of solidarity of Belarusian journalists, “Day of Closed Newspapers”. Representatives of Belarusian independent press and such international organizations as Article 19, Ukrainian institute of Mass Information (IMI), Russian Center of Extreme Journalism and Journalist Union of Lithuania will take part in the action. At the action it is planned to award Z. Zavadski prize to Belarusian journalists (Z. Zavadski is the cameraman of the Russian TV Channel PRT, kidnapped in July 2000).The place of the action is the conference hall of “Belarus” hotel in Starazhowskaya Street 15, Minsk. All interested persons are invited.
At the action Pavel Sharamet, Head of the special project of the information direction of the PRT, will give the prizes to Belarusian journalists. Participants and guests of the action will present their speeches, video materials about the work of Belarusian non-State mass media will be demonstrated, the symbolic “Open Newspaper” will be modeled and Belarusian musicians will perform.
