“Salidarnasts”: Account Blocked

The State control committee has blocked the account of the “Salidarnasts” newspaper. This the way the committee intends to exact the fine, laid on the edition. Aliaksandr Starykevich, chief editor of this weekly newspaper, says that the issue of the next number may be delayed because of this. He found out that the account was blocked on his return from a mission. To his mind, it is a result of the economical sanctions, adopted by the State control committee in August, which, in their turn, resulted from the issue of the “Salidarnasts” number with articles, prepared by journalists of “Belorusskaya Delovaya Gazeta” the issue of which was suspended at that time.

According to Aliaksandr Starykevich, the arrest of the account can have a negative impact on the work of the newspaper’s editorial board. In his interview to Radio “Liberty” he said: “The arrested account is a big trouble. Though we are preparing our next number, today I can’t even say whether it will be issued in time. Now we are in danger of its non-issue”.

The editorial board of the weekly newspaper “Salidarnasts” has complained to court against the results of the check-up, conducted by the State control committee in summer. The trial hasn’t started yet.
