Homel Chyhunachny Borough Court Fined Organizers of Mini-Referendum

13.11.2003.

On 7 November the members of United Civil Party Ales Karniyenka and Vasil Paliakow were detained at the officially authorized picket at which they held the public voting concerning the possible prolongation of Aliaksandr Lukashenka’s presidential powers. The police detained the picket participants and charged them with violation of the order of picketing. In the court ruling it was stated that Karniyenka and Paliakow organized a meeting instead of the picket.

On 12 November Judge of Homel Chyhunachny Borough Court Hanna Novik considered the administrative cases against the UCP members Ales Karniyenka and Vasil Paliakow, organizers of a public voting. Judge found both defendants guilty and fined them 1 650 000 rubles each.

It’s worth mentioning that some time ago Judge Novik decided for confiscation of the computer equipment that belonged to the public association “Public Initiatives” and the youth center “Hart”.
