Meetings on 55th Anniversary of International Declaration of Human Rights

On 10 December, the International day of human rights, the representatives of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" Valiantsin Stefanovich, Uladzimir Labkovich and the journalist Henadz Barbarych went to the city of Baranavichy to pay a visit to Viktar Ivashkevich, a well-known prisoner of conscience, former editor-in-chief of the "Rabochy" newspaper who spends his term of personal restraint for an "attempt of libel" towards A. Lukashenka.

Viktar Ivashkevich received a food parcel and a very cordial meeting took place. Viktar Ivashkevich said he was very grateful to Human Rights Center "Viasna" and Belarusian Association of Journalists that have constantly turned the public attention to his lawless imprisonment and given him every kind of support possible.

On 16 December the term of Viktar Ivashkevich will be over. He is in a good mood and intends to continue his public and political activity.

On 7 December the member of Human Rights Center "Viasna" Tatsiana Reviaka, mother of the missing journalist Zmitser Zavadski Volha Zavadskaya and the journalist Aleh Dashchynski came to the town of Vasilevichy to visit Uliana Ryhorawna Zakharanka, mother of the missing former Minister of Internal Affairs Yury Zakharanka.

Members of Human Rights Center "Viasna" intend to continue such visits. Soon they will come to Valiantsina Adamawna Hanchar, mother of the missing vice-speaker of the Supreme Soviet of the 13th Convocation and Kseniya Sidarawna Krasowskaya, mother of the missing businessman Anatol Krasowski.
