Zmitser Zavadski’s Case Renewed

15.12.2003.

On 10 December the Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus renewed the investigation of the criminal case on disappearance of the journalist Zmitser Zavadski. This information was given to the press center of “Charter-97” by the journalist’s wife Sviatlana Zavadkaya. The official note about the renewal of the case investigation was signed by the head of the department on investigation of the cases connected with organized crimes and corruption Ivan Branchel.

The renewal of the case gives Zavadski’s relatives the possibility to solicit for interrogation of the persons who can have relation to his disappearance. According to numerous testimonies, such persons are Prosecutor General Viktar Sheyman and the head of the special police unit Zmitser Pawlichenka. The former KGB head Uladzimir Matskevich, former Prosecutor General Aleh Bazhelka and some other country’s officials can tell much as well. However, it’s worth mentioning that all previous solicitations to interrogate them weren’t satisfied.
