Krychaw Authorities Refuse to Register Branch of Belarusian Association of Journalists

Krychaw District Executive Committee refused to register the local branch of Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ).The DEC authorities state that the branch didn’t submit the minutes of the Board sitting. The branch members, in their turn, state that they have prepared the block of the registration documents in conformity with all legal demands.
The confrontation of the local “vertical” and journalists started with the attempt of BAJ members to register in Krychaw the independent edition “Ulasny Kamentar”. According to the journalists, the authorities protracted the registration, inventing formal reasons for their refusal.
The conflict was solved by Mahiliow Regional Economic Court that obliged the DEC to register the edition. Some of the journalists consider the refusal to register the BAJ branch as revenge.
