Chairperson of Free Trade Union Organization Fired from Work

On 26 March administration of Polatsak heat and power plant fired Aleh Shaitar, chair of the local Free Trade Union organization, reports RFE/RL.Aleh Shaitar worked as senior operator at boiler and turbine workshop and chaired the plant trade union organization. The order says, the reason for dismissal was ?#152;failure to perform duties of equipment testing’.
Last week administration of another company – Navapolatsak heat and power plant – refused to renew the contracts of the local Free Trade Union head and two activists.
Head of Polatsak-Navapolatsak regional branch of Free Trade Union Uladzimer Antanovich thinks these events show not just a dangerous tendency, but a purposeful policy to destroy the independent trade union movement.
