Court Justifies Belarusian Helsinki Committee

On 29 July Minsk Economic Court pronounced its verdict on the cassation complaint of the tax inspection against the decision of the court of the first instance. The cassation instance confirmed the groundlessness of the financial sanctions, imposed on Belarusian Helsinki Committee for alleged non-payment of taxes from the gran issues on the TACIS program.

Now the justification of BHC comes into legal force.

On 23 July it happened to the verdict of Hrodna Regional Economical Court which stated that similar pretensions of Slonim tax inspection to the PA “Will for Development” were groundless. Slonim tax inspection filed a cassation complaint, but the court refused to consider it due to the process violations (the complaint was filed too late and the other side of thetrial didn’t receive a copy). On 23 July Hrodna Regional Economical Court ordered to forcibly exact from the tax inspection the court expenses.

So, the public activists won the struggle for tax-free usage of TACIS grant means, which was confirmed by the cassation instances.
