Valery Levanewski’s and Alexander Vasilyew’s Initiative Groups Not Registered

Valery Levanewski and Alexander Vasilyew will not be able to run at the parliamentary election. Election commissions did not register their initiative groups.
They are both accused of public insult of President Lukashenka. Mr. Levanewski is in pre-trial detention center, and Mr. Vasilyew had to give a written undertaking not to leave the place. The election commissions agreed, that these circumstances allow both of them to still run for the parliament. However, the initiative group of Valery Levanewski was not registered. The formal reason is that the application was filed by his son Uladzimer and not him personally. Actually, Mr. Levanewski gave his son the power of attorney. However, the head of the prison did not confirm it.
Alexander Vasilyew’s initiative group was not registered for alleged mistakes in his application, reports RFE/RL.
