Georgian diplomats attempt to have the Kkhmara movement released

30.08.2005.

On 30 August the consul of Georgia in Ukraine Zurab Kvachadze was allowed to visit the Minsk detention center in Akrestsina Street and meet the activists of the Georgian youth organization Kkhmara Georgi Kandelaki and Luka Tsuladze who have been in the center since 24 August.
Mr. Kvachadze said that after this meeting the "conditions of custody for the citizens of Georgia were improved". According to his words, now interrogations with officials of Belarus regarding the release of Georgi Kandelaki and Luka Tsuladze continue.
Meanwhile the embassy of Georgia to Ukraine Hryhol Katamadze commented the situation around the Kkhmara activists to Radio Liberty. Hryhol Katamadze was surprised at the conditions of custody of the Kkhmara activists Georgi Kandelaki and Luka Tsuladze. The ambassador hopes that the court decision that sentenced Georgi Kandelaki and Luka Tsuladze to 15 days of administrative arrest will be reviewed.
