Aliaxandr Milinkievich met with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus in Vilnius

“We do not hope that what the civilized world calls elections will occur next year. But we have a real chance of getting real elections. Our power is in unity, and only unity can become the foundation of victory”, said Aliaxandr Milinkievich on November 25, Friday, during a meeting with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus.
Today, the united pretender for the position of the president of Belarus from the united democratic forces had a number of official meetings in Lithuania. The main item on Aliaxandr Milinkievich's agenda was a meeting with the president of the country Valdas Adamkus.
During the forty minute talk, the politicians discussed the political and economic situation in Belarus, and also the presidential elections due in 2006.
Valdas Adamkus explained his interest in the developments in Belarus by saying that Belarus and Lithuania have long had a shared history, experience of living in the same country.
Aliaxandr Milinkievich noted that he knows the real moods of the Belarusian people because he goes to the regions every day, meets with the students, workers, businessmen and intellectuals.
“I am convinced that the people of Belarus wants changes. The majority of the Belarusians are tired of living in humiliation, even with a guaranteed welfare minimum", said Aliaxandr Milinkievich during his conversation with Valdus Adamkus.
The politicians shared their opinions on how to make the elections fair and transparent, how international organizations could contribute to the democratic development of Belarus.
During his visit to Lithuania, Aliaxandr Milinkievich also delivered a speech in front of the students of Vilnius University, the ambassadors of the western nations and Russia, and also had talks with the deputies of the Sejm and the leaders of the Committee on International Affairs of the Lithuanian Parliament.
