Kalinkavichy public activists were not allowed to take part in gas installment festival by local authorities

07.06.2006.

Information provided by Assembly of NGOs press-service.

Authorities of Babrovichy (Klainkavichy district, Homel region) decided to keep public activists out of gas installment festival. Certain officials threatened them in advance with appropriate measures in case the activists attempt to come. The matter is that gas has been installed in Babrovichy the other day. The reason for the installment remained unclear for the town inhabitants, since only the pipes were changed; meanwhile common people continue to use gas-bags.

At the same time, the event appeared to be a good occasion for a celebration. Head of local district executive committee V.I.Pilipets himself ordered that the festival should be attended by at least 700 people, while the population of the town is some 3,000. The people could not understand where Babrovichy had found so many new citizens. But the show was a success.
