All-Belarus trade unions action of protest to be held on July 12

On 12 July 2006 activists of the Belarusian Radio and Electronics Workers Union (REWU) are going to hold a national action of protest against refusal to register the REWU primary organizations in Minsk and regional cities. At the session of the Presidium of the Republican Council of trade union that took place on 7 June activists have discussed developments in relation to regular refusals of authorities to register primary trade union organizations and have decided to organize pickets in four cities of the country - Gomel, Grodno, Minsk and Mogilyov. The trade unionists are sure that authorities refuse the REWU registration under absolutely far-fetched reasons in order to destroy an independent organization. The reasons of refusal differ: in Mogilyov - absence of the coordination of the legal address with Lessor, in Gomel - absence of necessary quorum in the course of organizational meeting, and city authorities of Grodno at all have preferred to not worry for finding any formal pretexts and have adopted a decision, which is absolutely illogical - it is considered inexpedient to register the REWU primary organization. The REWU activists are going to demand that authorities observe the laws. It is envisaged to carry out actions in all cities on squares in front of buildings of capital and regional administrations.
