Belarusian Foreign Ministry Blasts USA

The USA continues the course of biased and one-sided of the covering of the situation with human rights in Belarus, said an official representative of the Foreign Ministry Andrei Papou. Commenting on the report of the US Department of State on the situation with human rights in the world in 2005, A. Papou said that the US uses the human rights topic unjustifiably as a pretext and instrument of pressure on sovereign states. Belarus considers such methods absolutely unacceptable and counterproductive, A. Papou underlined.

According to the press secretary of the Foreign Ministry, criticism of the Belarusian legislation and law-enforcement practice looks improper and illogical, while numerous gross violations of human rights and occasions of discrimination are observed in the USA, A. Papou said.

He also noted that he report of the US Department of State uses the examples which were commented by the Belarusian side in previous years. Thus, for a number of years, information of official structures is deliberately ignored or questioned, he said.
