Minsk Authorities Banned Concert on Independence Day

24.07.2006.

Minsk authorities banned holding a concert on July 27 on Bangalore Square. The BelaPAN was informed about that by Valyantsina Svyatskaya, one of the organizers of the concert.

The application for holding a concert dedicated to the 16th anniversary of Declaration of State Sovereignty and State Independence of Belarus was submitted to the Minsk executive committee on July 11. It was signed by a writer Uladizmir Arlou, and public activists Valyantsina Svyatskaya and Alyaksandr Zhuchkou. It was planned that well-known Belarusian rock-groups would take part in the concert.

As said by V. Svyatskaya, an official refusal was received o July 21. The authorities motivated their decision by the fact that pickets are held on Bangalore Square from 4th to 30th of July (pickets in support of A.Kazulin), V. Svyatskaya said.
