Meeting to be held in Brest on Independence Day

25.07.2006.

Meeting For freedom! For independence! dedicated to the 16th anniversary of the Declaration of state sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus is to take place at 5.30 p.m. July 27, at the Brest stadium Budaunik.

Before Aliaksandar Lukashenka became the President of Belarus, this day had been celebrated as the state feast of our country - the Independence Day. 16 years have passed since the Belarusian people claimed they were ready to build a home of their own, they deserved to be called a nation. The present regime sells the independence of the country for cheap gas. Hiding behind stilted slogans about keeping the state independent, the powers think only of saving themselves, - these words are written in the leaflets-invitations spread today in the town by the activists of the campaign For Freedom!.

Leader of the Belarusian democratic forces Aliaksandar Milinkevich is to take part in the meeting. He also plans to visit the owners of route taxis, who are holding the hunger strike protesting against the illegal resolution of tax bodies according to which they must pay hundreds of millions of rubles.

The Brest united democratic forces have upheld the idea to hold the meeting. The program contains a speech of democratic forces leader Aliaksandar Milinkevich, speeches of public figures of Brest and Belarus, joining the Democratic parties and public organizations, spreading of the symbols of the campaign For Freedom! and a concert of bard Zmitser Bartosik.
