Meeting in Brest banned

26.07.2006.

Brest city authorities did not allow to hold a meeting For Freedom! For Independence!, dedicated to the 16th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of Belarus.
First, Brest City Executive Committee granted permission to hold a meeting at Budaunik stadium. However, on July 25 the organizers of the action were summonsed to the Board of Internal Affairs of Brest Regional Executive Committee to learn that the action would not take place. One of Brest major officials Viachaslau Khafizau said that the decision was conditioned by the leaflets that appeared in Brest the other day there was a call for revolt there. Besides, the address was signed by an unregistered organization the United Democratic Forces of Brest.
According to one of the organizers of the action Iuras Hubarevich, the basic reason for the ban was the fact that the meeting was to be visited by Aliaksandr Milinkevich.
