THE VITSESBSKI KURJER M NEWSPAPER SUMMONED BEFORE JUDGE

A suit against an independent newspaper "Vitsebski Kurjer M" has been considered by Kastrychnitski Court of Vitsiebsk since July 26. The complaint was sent by a Vitsiebsk dweller Aliaksandar Danilau.

The reason for the suit was the article "The Square of Freedom is for a closed circle of people" in the issue of April 14, 2006. The author of the article thought that the City Executive Committee's decision to give A. Danilau land so that he could build a Youth Recreation Centre there was hasty and contradicted the law: "There was no tender. Everything was decided on the quiet".

The plaintiff thinks that that the author claims that Danilau got the land in an illegal way due to the fact that the head of the City Executive Committee was his acquaintance which helped him get the land that used to belong to the building of St.Mikhalai's Cathedral.

A.Danilau says that the ideas are not true and considers the article and the fact that it was placed in the column "Scandals" to be insulting. He demands 30 million BRB as a compensation for moral damage.
