Non-state Newspaper Miastsovy Chas Is Prohibited to Elucidate Opening of Pinsk Univeristy with Participation of Lukashenka

The chief editor of the independent newspaper Miastsovy Chas Viktar Iarashuk applied to Pinsk City Executive Committee for the permission to attend the opening of university in Pinsk. The CEC answered it was for Brest Regional Executive Committee to decide. So, on 28 August the editorial office of the newspaper filed the appropriate letter with the ideological department of Brest REC. On 31 August the department gave a negative answer to the application. Viktar Iarashuk is surprised that the presidential security shuns Pinsk journalists. ˜They are the same citizens as those who work in the ˜vertical press. The only difference is in the way the facts are put: in Miastsovy Chas they are presented the way they are,’ he said.
