Brest BPF Leader Wins Suit

25.09.2006.

On September 25 Leninski court of Brest considered the suit of Yuras Hubarevich, chair of Brest BPF to local police. The court recognized the actions of the police officers illegal.

Hubarevich sued the police officers for events that took place during the election period. On the eve of the Election Day Hubarevich, head of the regional HQ of the single pro-democratic candidate, put his car to a parking lot at one of the vehicle inspection stations in Brest. For unknown reasons the police tow truck towed his car away. Yuras Hubarevich asked the court to recognize the actions of the police officers illegal for the lack of any grounds to tow his car away. Judge Sviatlana Sliusar agreed with the reasoning of the local BPF leader.
Yuras Hubarevich told RFE/RL, he will sue the law-enforcing bodies to compensate for the fine he paid to get his car back.
