Babruisk: Trade Union Activist Hungers for 7th Day

The activist of the Independent Trade Union Alena Zakhozhaia is on the seventh day of hunger-strike. She has already met with the administration of the open company Belshyna (Belarusian Tyre) and the leaders of the official trade union of her enterprise. According to her, the officials only pretended to be interested in dialogue with her. Ms Zakhozhaia continues the hunger-strike to protest against the discrimination of members of the independent trade union at Belshyna. She demands that the enterprise administration give a legal address to the primary unit of the Independent Trade Union of Belarus that operates there and spread on members of the trade union the provisions of the collective agreement concerning the issue of wage bonuses. The matter is that members of the independent trade union haven’t been paid any bonuses since May.

The only result of the meeting with the officials is that a doctor keeps an eye on the state of Zakhozhaia’s health while she is at work.
