No Parole for Ivan Kruk

On the eve of the court sitting that was to have decided the question of the early release of the public activist Ivan Kruk the guards of the jail where he is kept found in his cell a prohibited thing. Ivan Kruk wrote about it in a letter to his wife Volha Kruk. He didn’t specify what it was but wrote that this was the reason why he wasn’t granted parole. V.Kruk doesn’t rule out that this thing could be planted to him.

Ivan Kruk was an activist of the electoral headquarters of Aliaksandr Milinkevich in the town of Astravets (Hrodna region). He has been sentenced to 6 months of arrest for ‘resistance to the police’ and is kept in Hlybokaie jail. His term ends in January 2007. He also wrote to his wife that he is kept in an overcrowded cell and suffers because all his mates smoke.
