Authorities Ban Hazeta Slonimskaya

25.10.2006.

Recently the editorial team of the Hazeta Slonimskaya lost one more place where it sold the newspaper. One of Slonim private businessmen, who had been selling the newspaper in his private shop for a long time, was invited to the education department of Slonim municipality. The officials presented an ultimatum to him: he should stop selling the independent newspaper.

If he doesn’t, the authorities promise to cancel the lease contract for the building where his shop is located. The building where the businessman runs his shop belongs to the education department.

The businessman couldn’t do anything but accept the conditions of the ultimatum, reports press-service of the Belarusian Association of Journalists.
