Over 100 Entrepreneurs Protest in Baranavichy

26.10.2006.

The merchandisers protest against liquidation of their working places. Instead of market stalls, Paleski market decided to build small shops. The number of small shops will be significantly less than the number of market stalls.

Merchandiser Alena Hutarchyk has been working on the market for over 10 years. She tells RFE/RL: “we paid for reconstruction of the market. Now, when the market looks nice and beautiful, the administration kicks us out. We are losing work!”

The majority of people who lost their working places are women with children.
