Prison Conditions for Political Prisoner Ivan Kruk Are Getting Worse

In summer 2006 Lida District Court sentenced Ivan Kruk to 6 months of jail for ‘resistance to the police’. The verdict was appealed to Hrodna regional court which left it in force. Since 10 July Mr Kruk was kept in jail.

At present the prisoner is in the penal colony of Hlybokaie. Recently he has been transferred from cell 64 to cell 18. In the letter there are more people and all of them smoke a lot. Mr Kruk is a non-smoker. He stated that he felt a strong heartache for the first time there.

Besides, now he has to beware of the provocations. The matter is that some time ago Ivan Kruk applied for early release from jail, but somebody planted to him an iron ledge. As a result the application wasn’t satisfied. Now the prisoner also has to check his belongings after each walk in the prison yard.
