Activists Demand Release of Youth Activist Dzianis Dzianisau

22.02.2007.

Pro-democratic activists demand immediate release of participant of the tent camp, on Kastrichnitskaya Square in March 2006, Dzianis Dzianisau. They consider his detention exclusively political. Viachaslau Siuchyk reported to BelaPAN, the demand was included into the appeal signed by former deputy of the Babruisk City Soviet Ales Chyhir, civic activist Ales Mazur and Siuchyk himself.

Dzianis Dzianisau was detained in Homel late on 16 February when he intended to take the train to
Vitebsk. The young man was taken to the isolation ward of temporal custody. He has been charged with the crime under Article 342 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (organization and preparation of group actions, roughly violating public order).

Viachaslau Siuchyk does not exclude that the events, which took place in Vitebsk in summer 2006 when activist Krystsina Shatsikava hang out the white-red-white flag and “Rebel ! ” inscriptions appeared in the town, have been taken into account.

As far as Siuchyk is aware, the parcels for Dzianisau have been denied on the pretext that he was kept in Homel temporally and was to be escorted to
Vitebsk.

“We consider Dzianisau’s “case” politically motivated and demand his immediate release”, the appeal says.

Democratic activists call all political parties, civic organizations and all people of good will to demand immediate release of Dzianis Dzianisau.
