4,5 Thousand Dollars Raised for Release of Dzianis Dzianisau on Bail

9 April is the birthday of Dzianis Dzianisau, but it is necessary to gather 15 million Belarusian rubles (about 7,5 thousand US dollars) for his release on bail. The activist was detained on 16 February and is kept in Vitsebsk investigative isolator. He is charged with organization of actions that violate the public order and counteract to the state power (article 342 of the Criminal Code) and can be punished with up to 3 years of jail.

The action on raising the money started on 23 March. Dzianisau’s friends already have 4,5 dollars. On 16 April there will turn two months since the activist’s detention. According to the law the criminal case against him must be passed to the court, but the prosecutor has the right to prolong the investigation for another month. This can be done several times, as a result of which Dzianis Dzianisau may remain in pre-trial custody till 16 August.
