Victory of Salihorsk Citizens

Salihorsk youth has received a positive answer from bus depot No.1 to their proposal to announce bus stops in Belarusian language. The letter says that the bus depot will introduce announcements in Belarusian. Information is provided in Belarusian at the bus station “Salihorsk”. Changes will be made in information signs later.

As we have informed, in February Salihorsk activists of the Young Front initiated collection of signatures in support of their appeal with a number of requirements including a demand to announce bus stops in Belarusian. Besides, young people demanded from city authorities to carry out a number of events dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas poets. The educational department of Salihorsk district executive committee has taken appropriate measures. Only one demand of the youth activists, a TV show on issues of languages, hasn’t been fulfilled because of technical capabilities of local TV channel.

The organizers told the Polish Radio, the campaign is not finished. A number of other actions on popularization of native tongue between Salihorsk dwellers is planned.
