Youth Guard Historical Center of Hrodna

On 4 May in Hrodna the youth started standing daily guard at the buildings in the older part of the city which have been fixed for demolition by the city authorities. The youth from the For Freedom! company watches in shifts the historical monuments.

The decision on standing daily guard was made due to the authorities keeping secret the time of the buildings demolition in order to avoid the public protests. The guarding initiators are sure that the operative information will enable the decisive response to the authorities’ actions.

All the information is directed to the persons responsible who in case of real threat of the buildings demolition will distribute the information among the public and journalists.

On 4 May in Hrodna activists of the democratic movement launched the public campaign Distinguished People against Destruction of Hrodna; the statements by Liavon Barscheuski, Uladzimir Arlou, Aleh Khamenka, etc. concerning the situation in the city have been distributed.
