BHC demand to annul unlawful criminal article

Belarusian Helsinki Committee will cooperate with the Venice Commission in order to annul the article of the Criminal Code of Belarus, under which several Young Front activists have been sentenced. In a special statement, BHC points out that Article 193-1 (illegal organization of a public association or participation in its activity) limits the right to the freedom of associations and contradicts the Constitution and Belarus’ international obligations.
BHC suggests sending the Article with the help of the CE for the consideration of the Venice Commission, since its authority will help the Constitutional Court of Belarus to declare the Article illegitimate.
At the same time BHC thinks it is a good sign that the trial was open for journalists, diplomats, human rights experts etc.
