The Human Rights Center “Viasna” found out some details of the criminal proceedings against youth activist Ivan Shyla. Vitold Aliakseyeu, investigator of Minsk regional prosecutor’s office, singled out materials about Zmitser Dashkevich’s refusal to give evidence against Shyla, into a separate case.
The materials have been sent to Shklou, where Zmitser Dashkevich is serving his term. The prosecutor’s office of Shklou district has 10 days to consider the papers and make a decision if to instigate proceedings against Zmitser under Article 402 of the Criminal Code (giving deliberately false evidence or refusal to give evidence). According to the investigator, who interrogated Zmitser Dashkevich on Shyla’s case, Zmitser refused to give evidence on the case.
Simultaneously, investigator Aliakseyeu singled out materials against Nasta Azarka into a separate case. The materials have been sent to Minsk region prosecutor. As we have reported earlier, on March 5th, 2006 criminal proceedings were instigated against Nasta Azarka under Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code (activity on behalf of unregistered organization). However, the charges were dropped. It is possible, that Nasta Azarka will again be charged with the same “crime”.
