The Belarusian authorities continue to persecute democratic leaders who serve politically motivated prison terms
As the Human Rights Center “Viasna” found out, today youth activist Artur Finkevich, who is serving a term in an open-type prison in Mahiliou, was placed into pre-trial detention center. Allegedly, he maliciously violated the inner regulations. He is charged under Article 415 of the Criminal Code “Avoiding punishment of freedom restriction”. Under the new charge Artur faces punishment of up to three years of prison.
This is not the first time when Artur Finkevich faces a real threat to get behind bars, because he has been given several disciplinary reprimands.
It’s worth mentioning that Artur’s friend and colleague political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich would soon be tried by Shklou court. He was additionally indicted of refusal to testify against his colleagues. Last week the additional criminal case against Dashkevich was sent to court.
