Authorities Worried by BRSM Members’ Participation in Opposition’s Actions

Youth remains the most problem electorate segment, and the most inconvenient part of the Belarusian opposition for the Belarusian authorities. The attention to the youth generation has especially increased since last presidential election in spring 2006.
The opposition youth has not a single day passed without questioning, recruitment, trials and other expenses of Belarusian manner of political struggle.
Belorusskiye Novosti learnt from the sources in the bodies of government, they are concerned with the fact, that the acting BRSM (Belarusian Republican Youth Union) members were noted among the participants of the European and Social Marches. Tens of the members of this organization are afraid of repressions of the educational establishments’ administration, but nevertheless, attend the oppositional actions. It witnesses that there are many people in this organization – a pillar of the state youth policy, who were made to join the BRSM voluntary-compulsory.
This question, among others, will be raised on the forthcoming session at the president’s administration, devoted to the ideological work among students. It is scheduled for late November.
