Another Multi-Million Suit for Newspaper Article

Mikalai Charhinets, head of the Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of Republic, started legal action on defending honor, dignity and business reputation against a journalist and BAJ member Aliaksandr Tamkovich and a private unitary publishing enterprise “Vremia Novostej”, publishing a newspaper “Novy Chas” (“New Time”).
The suit was caused by a publication "General-Senator Mikalai Charhinets", appearing in “Novy Chas” on September, 24 2007 (№25). Mikalai Charhinets regards the information stated in the article to be false and insulting for him.
The claimant demands a recoup of 500 million rubles from “Vremia Novostej” and 100 million from the author of the article.
The first court session of the parties will take place on December, 5th.
