Bear in mind that in 2007 eight persons were punished under this article. Three more such criminal cases are on the stage of preliminary investigation.
Thus, the authorities continue using article 193.1 of the Criminal Code for persecution of public and political activists. Human rights activists stated it many times that article 193.1 and the practice of its use contradict to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights, because it groundlessly limits the right of Belarusian citizens to association.
