Numerous Sentences to Young Activists

Several Young Front activists detained on January 16 (Solidarity Day) were brought to court under false charges. Franak Viachorka, Uladzimer Siarheieu and Katsia Krasnova were sentenced to 15 days of imprisonment for violating Article 17.1 (using foul language) by Judge Tatsiana Pauluchuk of Minsk Tsentralny Borough Court. Maxim Viniarski got 10 days from the same judge, while the accused was not even allowed to see the police report. Anton Kalinouski was sentenced to 10 days of prison as well. Kasia Halitskaia and Yuras Stankevich got 15 days each. According to Radio Liberty Belarus, a young activist Mikita Shutsiankou who was going to witness in Stankevich’s case disappeared. It is likely he will be accused of participating in an unauthorized action as well. Young Front activist Mauluda Atakulava was sentenced to 15 days of imprisonment for violating Article 23.34.
