‘I am very indignant at such demands. My arrest was unlawful and disgraceful and I declared a hunger-strike of protest right in the court hall. I do not understand what for I am to pay money if I refused from food (which, by the way, was registered I the official documents). That’s why I will hardly pay anything, even if the court satisfies the suit of the pre-trial prison,’ explained Tsianiuta on the eve of the trial.
Predictably enough, the court granted the suit and obliged Tsianiuta to pay 44 150 rubles (about 21 US dollars) ‘for incarceration conditions’, though the only ‘condition’ in his cell, Andrei says, was an electric lamp.
