Adherents of the For Freedom movement have received a negative answer from Brest oblast executive committee to their proposal to abolish the ruling of Baranavichy city executive committee About the rules of holding mass actions in the city of Baranavichy.

The regulations of this document make it impossible to hold any mass actions. The answer is signed by the head of Brest OEC Leanid Tsupryk and the head of Baranavicy CEC Uladzimir Stakhnou.

The address was sent to them by Baranavichy activist of For Freedom Viktar Syrytsa, the human rights activist Siarhei Housha and the lawyer Karnei Piatrovich. They stated that the ruling About the rules of holding mass actions in the city of Baranavichy, adopted by Baranavichy CEC on 17 January 2006, violated the law On mass actions and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

However, to their well-argued application they received a short answer: ‘the ruling of Baranavichy city executive committee of 17.01.2006 #4 About the rules of holding mass actions in the city of Baranavichy is in line with the law, and your application is considered as groundless’.

Viktar Syrytsa says that they are going to address higher organs of power to get the unlawful ruling of Baranavichy CEC abolished.
