’Right Alliance’ not allowed to hold a picket near Russian Embassy in Minsk

The Minsk City Executive Committee banned an unregistered organization Right Alliance to hold a picket near the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Minsk on 27 July, the day when of the Declaration of the Sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus.

As stated to RFE/RL by Yury Karetnikau, the leader of the Right Alliance, the officials referred the ban to the ruling that prohibits holding mass actions near embassies and other ‘regime objects’.

Yury Karetnikau also pointed that some time ago representatives of the pro-governmental Belarusian Republican Youth Union (BRSM) held a picket against the Russian policy towards Belarus near the embassy, and added that members of the Right Alliance would hold their action athwart the ban.

We should remind that pickets dated to an anniversary of the declaration of sovereignty were also banned in Vitsebsk and Mahiliou.
